siècles comme Abû Yazîd Bastâmî ou Husayn al-Hallâj. Elles furent appelées shatahât (débordements) et souvent identifiées à des états d’extase incontrôlées. Le présent exposé entend montrer que ces locutions obéissent au contraire à des expériences profondes, lucides, en cohérence avec les fondements de la foi. Elles posent la question du sujet face à Dieu : qui prie, qui aime ? Elles conduisent à s’interroger sur l’essence de la vie mystique en islam. \n\n\n\n\nPierre Lory est directeur d’études émérite à l’EPHE, où il occupait la chaire de Mystique musulmane.
